Andy is a literacy education professor at East Stroudsburg University and school literacy consultant with experience across various educational settings.
Andy's professional and educational background is mostly rooted in literacy. With a Master of Education and Doctor of Education focused on reading and language arts, along with graduate studies in educational leadership and English literature, Andy brings a love of language to the classroom and beyond. He is certified in Pennsylvania as a K-6 Educator, Reading Specialist, ESL Program Specialist, and Principal.
Andy began as an elementary school teacher teaching at a small, rural school with a diverse population both culturally and linguistically. This experience led to his fascination with literacy and language development. Inspiring him to pursue graduate studies in literacy education and to transition to the role of reading specialist, where he worked with students from kindergarten through sixth grade. Prior to joining ESU as an assistant professor, Andy also served as the Supervisor of English Language Arts at a state/local-run regional educational service organization. This administrative role provided valuable experience supervising programs and teachers in various settings.
Andy's broad areas of study and work encompass reading and literacy, appreciative inquiry, asset-based reading instruction, student engagement, and instructional coaching. Andy hopes to bring conversations worth having to every classroom he encounters, including his own college classrooms.
